Create a FaceBook page to connect with friends or promote your business. Here's how:
Go to www.facebook.com and find “Sign Up.” Enter your first and last name, e-mail address, password, gender and birthday. Look under the list of boxes to find and click on “Create a Page.” You should now see a page titled “Create New FaceBook Page.” You will see three options to choose from (Local, Brand, Artist). There are more options under each main option. Choose the option that best fits the page you are creating. After you’ve picked an option you will see a box below the options where you need to type in the name of the Business, Product, Public Figure, etc. Note: Make sure what you type in this box is the name you want the page to be titled. You will not be able to change this.
- Type in the words you see in the security check box and click “Create Page.”
- A screen titled Create a FaceBook Account will appear. If you already have one, type in your information. If not, check the box that says “I do not have a Facebook account.” Then fill out the information below. Once you’ve clicked “Sign Up Now” go to your e-mail and confirm the address.
- Upload a profile picture. You can do this by holding your cursor over the box on the left with the big “?”and click on “Change Picture.” Once you click on Change Picture a drop-down menu will appear. You can upload a photo from your computer or take a picture. Below your picture you will see a little box that says “Write something about {your company’s name}. “For example, you could write the company’s mission statement, a few short lines about the company or even a release date for a new product.
- Add information to the “Info Tab.” In the center of the page you will see tabs labeled “Wall” and” Info.” Click on the “Info Tab” and then click on “Edit Information,” which is located on the right side of the page. Once you click on Edit Information you can enter both Basic and Detailed Information. The information you can add depends on which of the three categories (and sometimes subcategories) you chose when initially creating the page. Once you have entered all desired information, click “Done Editing”-- otherwise the information will not save.
- Begin adding photos by clicking on the “+ sign” located next to the Info tab. A drop down menu will appear; pick “photos.” This will add a photo tab to your tab bar. Click “+ Create a Photo Album.” A new screen will appear that allows you to add information about the album, such as the name, location and description of images. Note: You have to name the album but do not have to add the location or description. Once you have named the album click “Create Album.” Another new screen will appear. (You may have to download a plug-in for this screen if prompted.) Select and add the images desired. Note: You can only select photos out of one folder at a time. You can upload photos from one folder and then go back and upload photos from another. Once you’ve selected the photos “Click Upload,” which is located in the upper right corner of the box.
- A screen will appear with your uploaded images. Add captions or tag people in the images. To tag friends, click on the person in the photo and a box will appear. If the person has a FaceBook page and is a friend, you can begin typing their name in the box and it will appear in the list below where you’re typing. Check the box by their name. If the person does not have a FaceBook page, you can type in their name and then click tag. Once you have added all desired captions and tagged any friends make sure to click “Save Changes” at the bottom of the page. If you want to add more images click on the “Add More” tab located at the top of the page and continue with the same process.
- You can also upload videos. To do this, once again click on the “+ tab” and the drop down menu will appear; chose “video.” A blank area will appear. Click “upload” to upload a video from your computer or “record” if you want to record one. If you click on upload a screen will appear where you can browse your files and find the video. Once you have chosen a file, it will start uploading. While it’s uploading you can add a title and description. You can also tag people in the video by typing their names in the box labeled “In this video.” Note: It may take awhile for the video to upload.
- Another useful application for a Facebook Page is the event box. For example, you can use this area to post an upcoming event for your company. Click on the + tab and a drop down menu will appear. Click on it to add the event tab to your tab bar.
- To create an event click on “+ Create Event” located on the upper right side of the screen. You should now see a page that has Step 1, 2 and 3 at the top left and an information space underneath. Step one includes the title, location, date and time. You do not need to fill in all the information, only the required fields. After filling out step one click “Create Event.”
- Upload a photo, choose the event type that best fits your event and edit the event options. Go to Step 3 which is inviting friends. Note: You can invite your friends for your personal Facebook profile but there is no option for inviting the fans of your Page. After you’ve completed step 3 you’ve created an event and it will now be posted on your Facebook Page.
- Add a Discussions tab, if desired. If this tab isn’t already on your tab bar then click the “+“ again and choose “Discussions” from the drop down menu. Click on the discussions tab and click on “+ Start New Topic.” You will see a box to type in a topic and post. The post can be anywhere from a few sentences to a long paragraph. Use this to get customer opinions or customer stories about their experience with your company. Once you’ve created the initial post fans can add their own comments.
- There may be items on your tab bar that you do not want included. For example the “Reviews” tab automatically appears on your tab bar. The review tab allows customers to write reviews on a product or service. To remove any tabs that are unwanted, click “Edit Page” located under your main photo. This should take you to a new page.
- On this new page you will find settings, wall setting and mobile (you can click on these to edit different aspects of your page) you will then see the title “Applications.” Scroll down until you see “Reviews.” You will see a pencil in the upper right corner of the Review box, click on this. A drop down menu will appear; select and remove the application desired.
- Other applications are available to further customize your FaceBook page. Play around to discover what best suits your needs.
