Nip OSHA violations in the bud with custom software development

By March 16th, 2012No Comments

It's difficult to quantify how much workplace accidents and safety violations can cost an organization. It's not easy to put a dollar amount on an employee injury because organizations must consider factors including lost work hours and damage to important equipment. However, workplace safety fines do, which is why it's important to fully train employees so they can keep facilities safe and avoid Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) penalties.

According to WKTV in Utica, New York, food distributor Agro Farma received 34 violations from OSHA for health and safety violations at its New Berlin facility. The government agency levied a total of $178,000 in fines against the company. These problems stemmed from mechanical, chemical and electrical system failures, all of which threatened the safety of onsite employees.

Employees should be fully trained to correct common mistakes because they are most affected by unsafe work conditions and are the first line of defense against workplace accidents. This can be accomplished with eLearning development tools such as training software. Because these programs can be used to teach a variety of techniques and familiarize employees with different scenarios, custom software development will help to reduce losses from decreased productivity as well as legal fines.
