The 2018 Mayor’s Summer Youth Program kicked off another exciting summer of work experience and community service in Peoria, Ill. This year’s group is made up of 24 Peoria Public Schools students who are spending the summer working with the City of Peoria’s Public Works Department on a wide variety of projects throughout the city. Students will spend eight weeks traveling around Peoria, working on projects such as planting trees along Orange Prairie road, picking up litter and old tires, and working on the city’s many gardens. Students will also visit a variety of businesses, organizations, and higher education institutions as part of the career development programming, planned by the Greater Peoria Economic Development Council (GPEDC).

This week, students visited CSE Software® Inc., where they spent time learning about simulation and virtual reality (VR) technology. Students were able to get a behind-the-scenes look at programming and development, plus experience a heavy equipment training simulator and VR immersion.
